The educational research and talent cultivation of Renmin University of China(RUC) can be traced back to Shanbei Public School founded in 1937. In the 1940s, the predecessor of RUC, North China United University and North China University both had education departments. After the founding of the University, RUC set up a specialized education class in the 1950s, which trained a large number of outstanding talents and made outstanding contributions to the dissemination and research of Marxist education theory in China. In 1952, according to the decision of the Ministry of Education, the Education Teaching and Research Department of RUC, together with the specialized education class were integrated into Beijing Normal University. Since the end of the last century, RUC has gradually rebuilt the discipline of education: in 1999, the Institute of Education Sciences (later renamed the Institute of Education) was established; in 2005, the Research Office of Higher Education was established; and in April 2011, the School of Education of RUC was established based on the Institute of Education and the Research Office of Higher Education. It is responsible for the planning and construction of relevant disciplines in education across the university and carrying out personnel training and scientific research activities in related academic fields with the principle of 'High starting point, Above-average Quality, Interdisciplinary studies' to further enhance the teaching and research level and competitiveness of RUC in the field of education. The current Dean and Deputy Party Secretary is Prof. GuangliZhou, and the Party Secretary is Mr. Sheng Liu.

Under the guidance of the overarching plan to build a world-class university of RUC, the School of Education has steadfastly adhered to the tenet of 'establishing the school through excellent academics, strengthening itwith outstanding talents, developing itwith distinctive features, and reinforcing it with robust systems'. With the construction of academic disciplines as its core focus, the School of Education has achieved organic integration and mutual promotion of talent cultivation, scientific research and social service.
